Film Locations

 The Avonlea Connection

The Westfield Heritage Village, located just north of Highway 8 halfway between Dundas and Cambridge near Rockton, has been involved with Sullivan Entertainment since the filming of Anne of Green Gables with Megan Follows. Westfield's involvement continued with the popular Road To Avonlea series until the end of shooting in 1996 and the filming of the third installment of Anne of Green Gables in October 1998.

Anne at the train station
- In the movie, the home of 'all the twins', where the story begins, was filmed inside Westfield's D'Aubigny Inn with most of the furnishings from Westfield's artifact collection.

- Bright River Station in the movie, is Westfield's railway station originally built in Jerseyville and the first building moved to Westfield.

- Visitors will also recognize the Church, Boot & Harness Shop and other buildings, which form the village back drop when Gilbert drives Anne home from the General Store.

- Filming of the funeral for Matthew Cuthbert used the graveyard beside the Mountsberg Church at Westfield.

- The Hammond sawmill where Mr. Hammond, father of the twins, dies (Anne believes she is to blame because she was late with his lunch!), was filmed at the Centre's Sawmill.

- The Avonlea General Store (remember when Matthew bought Anne her blue dress with puffy sleeves?) was filmed at Westfield's General Store.

- Visitors to Westfield will recognize the arched windows on the upper floor of the Dry Goods Store as the window at the orphanage when Anne finds out she is going to Prince Edward Island (P.E.I).

In addition to filming on site at Westfield, artefacts from its collection have been used extensively to furnish sets in Toronto for Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Green Gables - the Sequel, and Road To Avonlea. In particular, the Green Gables kitchen set is always furnished with the stove, dough box and wood box from Westfield.

Television crews were also at Westfield to film portions of the Road to Avonlea series.  The Jerseyville Railway Station, again as Bright River Station, received Sara Stanley, her nanny and Andrew King during the very first episode "The Journey Begins."  By moonlight (a very large light on top of a crane), the Avonlea children were filmed in the cemetery beside the Mountsberg Church.  Wishing on magic seeds, they were eventually found by the local constable.  Many Westfield artefacts have also been used for the Road to Avonlea sets.  In particular, the interior of the general store set has many Westfield artefacts.

Many other feature films, commercials and videos have come to Westfield. Artefacts and reproductions have also been used in plays as well.
